ACUPUNCTURE

Your visit will include: A thorough health and wellness assessment along with an acupuncture treatment.  The acupuncturist will feel your pulses at each wrist and observe the color and shape of your tongue as part of this process. Your treatment may include any of the following modalities - acupuncture, electro-acupuncture, cupping, moxabustion, Asian Bodywork Therapy (ABT), recommendations on lifestyle changes, and herbal formulas or dietary supplements. The goal is to encourage the body to promote natural healing and improve functioning, bringing you back into balance.
Acupuncture sessions last approximately 60 minutes, including the consultation and treatment.
Does Acupuncture hurt?
Most people feel no pain at all; however, everybody has varying degrees of sensitivity and fear of needles. Sometimes there is an uncomfortable sensation with needle insertion, but this generally dissipates within the first few seconds. If your acupuncturist has given the patient the correct stimulus, they may feel tingling, heaviness distension, or an electric sensation around the needle. All treatments will be adjusted to the patient's needs and comfort level, especially those that are more sensitive.
Is Acupuncture Safe? What are the needles like?
In the hands of a well-trained practitioner, acupuncture is a safe and pleasant experience. The most common adverse side-effects are small bruises, minor bleeding at the needling site, and light-headedness after treatment; however, these are uncommon.
Single-use, sterilized, and disposable needles are used for each patient. Needles are NEVER re-used, re-sterilized, or re-packaged.
The needles are flexible and as fine as a strand of hair. Most acupuncture needles are from 0.5 inch to 1.5 inches in length. The average thickness (gauge) of the acupuncture needles that we use is 0.25 mm. Acupuncture needles are solid, not hollow like hypodermic needles. To give you a better idea of how thin they really are, about 30 acupuncture needles could be placed into the hole of a hypodermic needle.
Those on blood thinners or who have a bleeding disorder should consult with their Licensed Acupuncturist and their Primary Care Physician prior to acupuncture due to their risk of bleeding.
Does Acupuncture really work?
Yes. In the past 2,000 years, more people have been successfully treated with acupuncture than with all other health modalities combined. Acupuncture is practiced widely in Asia and in Europe, and is being used more and more in the United States. Acupuncture treatments can be combined with other modalities such as Allopathic Medicine, Chiropractic care, and Naturopathy. It is important that you inform your acupuncturist of other ongoing treatments, so that they can help you get the most from all your combined therapies.
What Does Acupuncture Treat ?
Just to name a few.....
  • Allergies, Asthma, and Sinus issues
  • Insomnia, Fatigue, and Depression
  • Infertility, Dysmenorrhea, Amenorrhea, and PMS (cramping, irritability, low back ache, etc.)
  • Headaches and Migraines
  • Digestive and Intestinal Disorders (IBS, constipation, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, cramping, low appetite, excessive appetite, etc.)
  • Acute and Chronic pain (arthritis, sciatica, low back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, knee pain, hip pain, etc.)
  • Side effects of Cancer Treatment (nausea, vomiting, peripheral neuropathy, low appetite, fatigue, diarrhea, constipation, edema, poor memory and concentration, etc.)
  • Weakened Immunity (allergies, chronic infections, common cold, general malaise, etc.)
  • Stress, Anxiety, Emotional Constraint

How many treatments will I need?
The number of treatments needed differs from person to person, which depends on the history, severity of the disease, your body's constitution, and your response to needling stimulation. For complex or long-standing conditions, one or two treatments a week for several months may be recommended. For acute problems, usually fewer visits are required. Acupuncture builds towards improvement each time you have it done, just like exercise and diet do. The more you dedicate yourself to your treatment, the sooner you'll see results!
